Primo Rocket used to be the fastest speeder-racer in the galaxy, but after a crash that sealed the fate of his space-station-city home,
Rio Rojo, Primo has resigned himself to life as a lowly spaceship salvage yard
owner. However, his two “kids”--harvest clone Beta, and Beta’s genius girl-clone Zeta--can’t
seem to keep out of trouble. When the dysfunctional family suddenly becomes the
target of an intergalactic manhunt, the family has to come together to save
their home.
What do you get when you combine Firefly, F-Zero, and
Disney/Pixar’s Cars? If you answered “a horrible fever
dream”, you’re right. But the second answer is
Rocket Salvage. Primo Rocket is a fatter, sadder Lightning McQueen, if
Lightning McQueen made a fatal mistake on the racetrack and drank away the rest
of his life in Radiator Springs. Writer/ideaman Yehudi Mercado uses an inter-galactic raceway to explore themes of
corruption, trans-humanism, and lineage. It’s pretty cool!
Illustrator Bachan brings these far-out ideas to life, resulting
in a colorful, optimistic world that’s dripping with slime and grit. You
feel it all through these pictures, the soaring highs of the raceway and the
crushing lows of personal defeat.
