Publishing Company N.A.S Launches Their Indiegogo Campaign for The Tribulations of Abaddon #1

Posted by Katie on 12:44 PM

The Tribulations of Abaddon #1 is a medieval adventure where warriors must join forces, caught in the center of an epic battle between angels and demons.

As humanity prospers and kingdoms grow, the balance of good and evil shifts into chaos when the demon Syria escapes from the dark bowels of Hell. Back on Earth, the Sumerian city of Larsa begins to consume itself as a demonic plague begins to spread at an overwhelming rate. Its defending warriors desperately strive to maintain their existence, and ensure their survival, by coming together. They overcome great odds as they fight for their lives, caught in the war between Heaven and Hell.

David Sandoval, the founder of N.A.S is here to ask for funding help in making the first issue of “The Tribulations of Abaddon” a reality. The journey to produce this fantastic tale has been a long one. He has been working on T.O.A. for a few years, and in the process of development, he came together with a fantastic team of artists who have helped him create this labor of love.

David has been personally funding the creative production of this book, but he can’t do it alone -- and producing the physical comic is a financial challenge in itself. He's looking forward to getting this story out to comic fans everywhere, so he can show everyone what an epic adventure he's created. David hopes to find enough support to make this a successful Kickstarter and make the book happen.

The Indiegogo funding will be used to help pay for the interior sequential art, which includes: pencils by Kris Cagle, inks by Juan Albarran, colors by Tommy Shelton, lettering by Kel Nuttall, post-production graphic design by Raymond Dowaliby, and the printing and Distribution of T.O.A. #1.

-          Exclusive Cover by: Patrick Blaine, Jonathan Glapion Steve Firchow
-          Exclusive (4) Connecting Covers by: Kevin Conrad, Patrick Blaine, Richard Bonk, Jonathan Glapion, Kris Cagle and Thomas Mason
-          Limited Cover by: Paolo Pantalena and Nei Ruffino

Two of the challenges David worries most about are scheduling and deadlines. The entire team is working hard to have the book completed and in print by August 2013. To avoid any chance of delays and get the book into everyone’s hands on time, they've decided to work nonstop until it is finished for all the backers.

Welcome to the first issue of The Tribulations of Abaddon!

As humanity prospers and kingdoms grow, the balance of good and evil shifts into chaos when the demon Syria escapes from the dark bowels of Hell. On Earth, the Sumerian city of Larsa begins to consume itself as a demonic plague begins to spread at an overwhelming rate. Its defending warriors desperately strive to maintain their existence, and ensure their survival, by coming together. From the creator:

Hey everyone! My name is David Sandoval, and I am here to ask for your help in making the first issue of “The Tribulations of Abaddon” a reality. The journey to produce this fantastic tale has been a long one. I’ve been working on T.O.A. for a few years, and in the process of development I came together with a fantastic team of artists who have helped me create this labor of love.

This is where you can help. I’ve been personally funding the creative production of this book, but I can’t do it alone -- and producing the physical comic is a financial challenge in itself. We’re looking forward to getting this story out to comic fans everywhere, so we can show everyone what an epic adventure we’ve created. We’re hoping to find enough support to make this a successful Kickstarter and make the book happen. We’ve gotten some great reactions from our fellow creators, artists and fans in the industry, so we’re even more excited than ever about bringing this comic to you.

The Tribulations of Abaddon #1

Welcome to The Tribulations of Abaddon #1; A medieval adventure where warriors must join forces, caught in the center of an epic battle between angels and demons.

David Sandoval is here to ask for help in making the first issue of “The Tribulations of Abaddon” a reality. The journey to produce this fantastic tale has been a long one. David has been working on T.O.A. for a few years, and in the process of development he came together with a fantastic team of artists who have helped him create this labor of love.

This is where fans can help. David has been personally funding the creative production of this book, but he can’t do it alone -- and producing the physical comic is a financial challenge in itself. The artistic team has gotten some great reactions from fellow creators, artists and fans in the industry, so TOA-team is even more excited than ever about bringing this comic to readers!

“The Tribulations of Abaddon is one of those rare projects that comes along and combines everything I love about high fantasy in the comic medium. N.A.S Studios is putting together an incredible tale of sword, sorcery, angels and demons and I am very excited to be involved in helping to bring this to life!”
          - Patrick Blaine (penciler/artist for Top Cow, Dark Horse, DC)

“TOA… monsters, demons, hot women, badass men. And a great storyline to boot! I am looking forward to my involvement with this project."
          - Kevin Conrad (inker/artist for Image, DC)

"T.O.A. is a BIG story... Big, over-sized people shooting off their big, over-sized mouths in a big, over-sized adventure! Feeding T.O.A.'s 'bigness' however, is a deep pool of subtlety. The characters are relevant, original and complex, and the settings are familiar enough to be engaging without being predictable. T.O.A.'s dialogue is loaded with humor and emotion, while remaining happily free of the campy bulls**t that is the lingua franca of modern Sword and Sorcery. The script paints crystal clear pictures -- I wish I were the artist drawing it! Its going to be a fun, epic saga and I can't wait to see it all come together!"
         - Steve Firchow (artist/colorist for Top Cow, DC, Marvel)

The Kickstarter funding will be used to help pay for the interior sequential art, which includes: pencils by Kris Cagle, inks by Juan Albarran, colors by Tommy Shelton, lettering by Kel Nuttall, post-production graphic design by Raymond Dowaliby, and the printing and Distribution of T.O.A. #1

This first issue will have 24 pages of story as well as 8 pages of bonus materials including concept
sketches and pinup art. That's a 32 page book!

Black Mass #1

Posted by Katie on 12:00 AM

"A story told before the Salem Witch Trials that takes you deep into the truth of what really triggered the trials. Magic, Spells, Revenge, Death and Love. Don’t miss this nonstop thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat... wanting more."

I have to say that I just love when a friend of mine comes to me and says "Hey, we have a new book coming out, would you review it?" It's even better when he says to me that the release date is my birthday. (September 23rd for those unaware.) How can I say no to that? I couldn't and so I bring you...*drum roll*...Black Mass!

The Good: I have to say that I love historical fiction and this storyline, written by David Sandoval and Adriana Mendoza, caught my attention from the first panel and carried it all the way to the end. The pencils in this book (Stefano Cardoselli) captured the story and helped to convey the myriad of emotions that flowed throughout this part of the story.

The Bad: This is another of those books that really would be so much better done in color than black and white. Unfortunately, there are times when the inks on the pages are overwhelming and distract from what's happening on the page. I think this could be alleviated with the addition of some grey scale or the addition of a colorist.

The Summary: Black Mass is a book that I'm going to be adding to my list of books to follow. The story is intriguing and I'm very much looking forward to the next in this series. If you pick up this book, I do warn you that the topic may not be appropriate for children. In fact, I would rate this as a teen, leading into mature title.  I would also warn you that in the copy I received, page 14 is especially not child friendly. It's wonderfully drawn, but not something my boys need to be looking at.

Now, I have some good news for those of you who don't want to wait until September 23rd for the release! This book is actually now available in digital format! It can be purchased at DriveThruComics and Indy Planet. If you so desire, it is also available for pre-order from Comic Flea Market.

If you would like to learn more about Black Mass, check out N.A.S. Studios on Facebook or on their website.

Geek-o-Rama received a copy of this book for the purpose of this review. Dates and friendships did not affect the author's very serious (wait..this is Katrina's review..is she ever serious?) reading and reviewing of this book.
