Past Aways 1

2015: the distant past. A crash landing strands five deep-time explorers in a primitive world of internal-combustion engines and Internet 1.0 and tears a rift in space-time that spouts dinosaurs, giant robots, and other strange phenomena! Only the marooned “Past Aways” can defend the twenty-first century, unless the tensions of their unexpectedly prolonged mission tear them apart!

Prior to checking out this book on the Dark Horse page, I finished it mostly unsure of what just happened.  Funny enough, the summary above gave me a much better idea and now it makes a bit more sense.  So, if you read the first issue of Past Aways and are as confused as I was, at least said summary can help out with that.

So, with that being said, here's what I managed to get out of it.  A team of five very different people are in various places all doing their own thing for lack of a better term.  An event of sorts causes a dinosaur to suddenly appear, and that is presumably just the start.  By the end, it is the hope of the narrator (and also a member of the team) that they can manage to come together again and continue what they started.

While the story left me scratching my head, the art was easier to close the book and be at ease.  It's a great combination of both illustration and colors giving this a very nice visual appeal at least.  There were so many different scenes that were done here and it gave an excellent assortment to show the strength of the artwork for the book.

My assumption is that the prologue in Dark Horse Presents #6 would have helped understand the story more.  That aside, I can see further issues grabbing my attention more with the overall plot of the story.  My curiosity is piqued enough to say it's got potential to be a fun title to stick with.
