sorcerer-priest hell bent on creating a dark new age in Hyborian warfare!
With so many titles to possibly get into, there are some
big ones that I admit I missed growing up.
It was typically not for lack of interest, more just that there were
only so many hours. And dollars. Now with the Conan Red Sonja: The Age of
Innocence crossover, I can finally say I’ve got at least one issue under my
belt for them.
As I’ve never read any of either the Conan or Red Sonja
comics, I’m not sure if they’ve ever paired up before. Either way, this crossover pairing was a
great way to be introduced to an adventure with the characters. In this first issue, the two of them are
found thieving after the same item, leaving plenty of mayhem in their wake as
they escape. Once they come to realize
what it is they actually stole, it sets the stage for what will be their ongoing
quest.
With this being my first opportunity to see a book from
either character, I had no expectations for the art going into it. The artwork used for this crossover fit this
heroic kind of story very well. The
particular styles of both the line work and colors both melded nicely. One thing in particular I enjoyed were the
sharper angles that the characters had, giving them a more intense feel.
This is a kind of comic that most everyone can enjoy,
especially being such iconic characters.
Whether or not you have any prior experience with these two, this is a
good book to jump into. Long time fan or
newbie, this is a great title to pick up on your next trek to the comic store.
