Wow, so this really took me back. I remember watching this show religiously as a kid, I can still kind of remember the theme song too. So, as you can imagine, reading this was like a fond trip back to the good ol’ times. It’s another adventure starring the five main fraggles: Mokey, Gobo, Wembley, Boober and Red, however this one mostly centers on Gobo. Gobo is bound and determined to invent something incredible, something he can be remembered by, but alas, he just can’t come up with anything. However, upon discovering that all of the water has dried up, Gobo may just get his chance yet.
I’ve gotta say, I’m quite impressed with the writing skills of Kate Leth. Now, I’m not saying that I’m surprised that she could write, only that this issue read so well. Kate was able to capture the essence of the fraggles right down to all of the little quirks that I remember. It honestly felt like I was watching the TV show again, she even managed to write in a musical number. It’s the little things like that, that really help sell this series to the nostalgia crowd. The artwork by Jake Myler clicks the whole story into place with its vibrancy and simplicity. All-in-all, a great read and definitely worth the read if you’re a long-time fan of the fraggles, or discovering them for the first time (and if that’s the case, you don’t know what you’ve missed out on).
Fraggle Rock: Journey to The Everspring issue one will transport you back to a magical time when Muppets were the hot commodity. It’s well written and well illustrated, making it one of the few issues intended for a younger audience, onto my recommended list.
