So after the first THOR
came out, I think expectations for this one were sky high. After taking a close
look at the previews and the brilliant addition of Anthony Hopkins’s voice over
the stage was set. In this one, THOR is still hung up on Jane Foster but not
hung up enough to have not been around for 2 years (which makes no sense to
this reviewer because Sif has freakin got it going on and doesn’t hang out with
the nutty professor and Velma from Scooby Doo). On top of that, something
called “the convergence” is about to happen which will open the door for an
opportunity for the Dark Elves to send the universe (9 Realms) into darkness.
The Dark Elves pretty much hate everything.
The GREAT – 1) The back
story in this thing is so rich you could almost build a TV series on it. 2) We
get right into the action and even the more somber parts of the story never
really let up. 3) Unlike IRON MAN 2, I don’t think anyone in their right mind
is questioning whether or not this is better than THOR. I think it crushes it and
I LOVED THOR. 4) There are a bunch of little details in this thing that are
just freaking outstanding including a much deeper role for Frigga (Rene Russo),
more screen time for Heimdall (Idris Elba) and some superb casting for our Dark
Elves. 5) Loki is great in this and does such an outstanding job he made me
both hate and mourn for him in the same two hour time frame.
THE WHAT – Apparently you
can get an app for just jumping through realms now. I hear Apple has come out
with one. (Kidding). All the getting to and from is a bit too easy in my
opinion but it is subtly explained making it excusable. Also sadly as much as I
want to like Darcy (Kat Dennings) I think the film would have been better
served trying to find ways to deliver more Sif to the screen. To the directors
credit however she was injured during filming so that may have been why. One
scene with Erik in the film was a bit much but 3 of the same one was almost
“you have got to be kidding me” worthy.
Overall this film will
easily land a spot in my TOP 10 for 2013. I can’t understand why anyone
wouldn’t have a blast watching this and quite frankly don’t want to. I give
this movie a 7 out of 7. I will be buying it.
Rating Definition : STUNNINGLY
BRILLIANT, this is a movie that should get consideration for your TOP 20
favorite films of all time. This is the movie that you couldn’t wait to see and
skipping 4 meals last week made it worth it to fork over the theater price for
admission, then repeat the process 17 more times. Then you will send letters to
the theater manager asking why they don’t show the movie for years after its
release.
