Unleashed

Posted by Katie on 5:00 AM

Years ago, Sela and a host of allies, who called themselves The Hunters, stopped a horde of monsters from summoning forth an entity of pure evil.  Sela knew that the only way to truly put this to an end, she would have to seal away the creatures and in turn sacrificing some of her allies in the process.  They all agreed it was for the best.  Flash forward to the present day, where The Being has broken free and released the monsters that had been locked away.  Now, on his quest for ultimate power, The Being is carving a path of destruction throughout the Grimm universe and it looks like Sela is the only one that can stop him again.  Unleashed, the new crossover epic from the writer of the hit Roby Hood series Pat Shand.

Just when you thought the Dream Eater was bad enough, now here comes The Being.  He’s so bad that even The Dark One doesn’t dare mess with him.  Having defeated The Dark One on more than one occasion, Sela seems to be the only one ballsy enough to take The Being on.  She’s done it once before, why not go for the gusto?  However, it looks as though The Being may not be taken so easily this time around.  Now we’re dealing with the bad of the bad.  I’m talking vampires, werewolves, zombies, the whole lot of them, not just those spawned from the pages of the Grimm Fairytales.  Unleashed is the new Zenescope crossover event of the summer and it’s sure to make waves throughout the Grimm universe both in the short term and long term.  When it comes to this sort of thing, Zenescope doesn’t mess around.

Pat sure is kicking ass and taking names over at Zenescope and this series is no exception.  The story shows Sela at her best, but also introduces a new group of allies who are equally as adept at dealing out punishment to the evil hordes.  Not much is known about the four newcomers, but I’m sure Pat’s got something awesome in store for them as the series pans out.  Throw in some out-of-this-world art by Nei Ruffino in issue zero and you’ve sold me.  This looks to be one series I’ll be paying attention to over the coming months.

So let me just continue on my praise of these first two issues here.  I mean, I’ve got nothing to complain about, so why not gush over them a bit more?  Actually, if I did that, I’d be afraid of accidentally revealing something totally awesome that happens in the series so far since I’ve said so much already.  I think it best if I just leave it at that, so you can enjoy the writings of Pat Shand as much as I do.

This series is starting off strong and as I’ve said, I’m really looking forward to what’s to come.  I was first introduced to Pat’s writing with the Robyn Hood series and have yet to be let down with anything else I’ve read of his.  So, if you’ve enjoyed Godstorm, Robyn Hood or anything Pat has had a hand in, these two books are not to be missed.  Pick them up or else risk having The Being unleashed!  You wouldn’t want that now would ya?  For more info on where to find these issues, visit the Zenescope website, or the Zenescope Facebook page.
