Grimm Fairy Tales Giant 2012

Posted by Katie on 3:00 AM

In the land of Myst, Blake The White Knight and Boulder the Dwarf have begun their journey to reform the council of the realms on an epic adventure that will take them to the farthest reaches of Wonderland, Myst, Neverland and OZ itself but as they search for those who will replace the previous members the Dark One's most loyal general Orcus is also searching for an item of incredible power to resurrect his long murdered Queen and when these two forces collide the face of the the Grimm universe will change forever.

The EVENT book of the year that sets the stage for the future of the Grimm Universe and the realms of power with an ending you have to see to believe!

The Good: A new voice to an ongoing saga. If you're a fan of Zenescope's Grimm Fairy Tales, then you'll know that they're up to issue 78. It would be easy for this series to die a long, slow death but Zenescope is doing it right by changing out the writers from time to time. In this year's Giant issue, we have writer Pat Shand. He not only manages to carry on the story in such a way that isn't jarring to the reader, but adds his own touches.

The Bad: As with any series that is up to 12 trades and numerous special editions, if you're not familiar with the characters, this isn't the place to start. Granted, most of y'all know this but I'm just throwing that out there for the comic loving newcomers among us. Also, the art work in this book didn't seem to have the same polish that I've seen from other Zenescope books. Now, to be fair, I'm looking at a .pdf version of this book and sometimes some of the "gloss" gets lost in translation.

The Summary: Fans of the Grimm Fairy Tale series will want to add this one to their collection. The writer takes us on another tale of action, adventure and dare I say it..the precursor to a bit of romance? The villains are villainous. The heroes are heroic and yet show their humanity well. The women are beautiful and strong. Really, with Pat Shand, it's hard to go wrong.
