The Witcher Volume 1 TPB

Posted by Geek-o-Rama Admin on 8:00 AM

Traveling near the edge of the Black Forest, monster hunter Geralt meets a widowed fisherman whose dead and murderous wife resides in an eerie mansion known as the House of Glass—a labyrinth of endless rooms with nothing to fill them, and horror around every corner.

I was fortunate enough to have read the first issue of this collection earlier in the year.  As previously stated, I've yet to be able to get around to actually playing The Witcher, but what I know of it provided enough interest.  With the initial book having a good start, I was more than pleased to get the Volume 1 TPB in my hands.

Issue one set the stage with our resident Witcher Geralt crossing paths with a lone hunter, and the two of them decide to keep each other company.  They travel through an evil forest, ending up at a foreboding house with untold horrors within.  Across the remaining four issues of the TPB we are treated to all the terrible challenges inside that they must face.  The story that unfolds by the end is really quite interesting, even tossing in an unexpected twist that I totally did not see coming.

The dark and dreary artwork that helps support the strong story is just as powerful.  The unwelcoming setting and scary foes all do a great job of visually setting the tone of this adventure.  There's a certain feeling of unease that makes a good horror story and that is present here.

I can say with confidence that whether or not you've played the game, you can definitely enjoy this book.  If you have, I can imagine this would be a great companion to the game series.  I would not be surprised to see more comics in the future for The Witcher, so grab this first volume while it's hot.

The Witcher Vol 1 TPB will be available 9/24.
