Punching Zoo includes a buttload of our favorite comics from
the site, 30 brand-new, too-hot-for-the-Internet comics, “The Hot Date” (a
choose-your-own-adventure where you decide the story), and a nice forward by
Alexis Ohanian, one of the founders of reddit.
At some point or another, you’ve probably read one of the
many webcomic strips from Cyanide and Happiness. It’s almost unavoidable if you spend any
considerable amount of time on the internet.
Not that you’d want to avoid them, because let’s face it, they are
hilarious. Now with Punching Zoo, you
have a whole boatload of them collected in one TPB, along with new ones we’ve never
seen!
Cyanide and Happiness is comedy in its rawest and most
blatantly honest form, holding absolutely nothing back with every new comic
that gets released. It can and probably
has touched upon almost every topic imaginable and finds a way to turn it into
a joke. For this very reason, some
people just can’t handle this insanely popular webcomic. It can be dark, it can be seriously
inappropriate, but when it comes down to it, these comics look to give us all a
much needed laugh.
There’s not much to be said about the artwork with Cyanide
and Happiness. I mean, everything is
stick figures and basic illustrations.
All of that simplicity aside, they still manage to make a good effort at
actual facial expressions and other details to get the point across.
If you can appreciate humor that pushes every envelope no
matter how wrong it is, Punching Zoo is totally a book for you. Whether you’ve seen all or (somehow) none of
the webcomic, this title should certainly be on your grab list for more laughs
than I can say. Although, it goes
without saying that it should be high up on your bookshelf so the young ones
can’t get their grubby paws on it.
