Jack McGriskin is a private detective with a strong right arm and a penchant for sticking his nose into other people’s problems.
With the architect of Eddie Newman's death revealed, Jack goes on the offensive to confront the mastermind pulling the strings of Boston's underworld and rescue Newman's kidnapped widow. He knows the who and the how, but the questions remain: why? And does he stand a chance?
I have thoroughly enjoyed this series right from the get go, and it’s actually sad knowing it will be coming to an end soon. Or will it really? Will Action Lab give us more Jack Hammer after this one? Even if they don’t, they’ve certainly given us a good run for a mini series.
The time for digging and thinking is over, and it’s finally time for some real action. This issue is just filled to the brim with it, finally letting us see what Jack is really capable of. Gun fights, plenty of melee combat, and the inevitable battle with the supervillain make this the most exciting chapter yet. With this potentially being the next to last issue though, the cliffhanger is one that truly leaves you begging to know how it ends.
The wonderful art has stuck around through this book, and keeps the momentum going. This is especially true with the well illustrated pages within that make it all the more thrilling. It can be challenging to truly make panels come to life with fast paced and action packed scenes, but that has yet to be a problem here.
In just the three issues they’ve had to work with, the team working on this book has done a great job both telling and showing us this unique detective story. As I said earlier, I’m curious to see if they might choose to continue on past the four issues. Either way, this issue and the two previous are well worth the price to check out.
