On her quest to bring forth a new vampire order, Samira
happens upon her old coven and offers them the opportunity to join her. Reluctantly they accept, but are they as
trustworthy as Samira hopes? Find out in
the newest installment of the spin-off mini-series from the Unleashed
story line, by Pat Shand. Also in this
issue, find out more of how Liesel Van Helsing is adapting to modern day
society and the unexpected ally she runs into.
After all this time, Samira has found her maker and his
coven. If only she could get them to
join her cause, she knows they’d be unstoppable. Yet many are still rather skeptical of the
notion of world domination. They’re
happy just existing and do not wish to limit their food supply by creating
a whole world full of vampires. With a
little help from The Being, Samira is able to convince them to go with her to
the flying fortress down in the arctic.
Truly this would be a dream for a dying race to have the means to
procreate and become the dominant species.
However, the coven, especially Vanessa still do not fully believe in
Samira’s bid for world domination, which could mean trouble for Samira down the
line. Throughout entertainment history,
there have been depictions of a vampire society, operating in secret so the
humans don’t become too difficult to deal with.
Sometimes these societies only go so far as a specific region, others
are world-spanning depending on which mythos you’re following. Which sets this coven out from the rest. It’s not often that you find vampires who are
just okay with existing. Makes one think
that something else might be in the works.
And let’s not forget about Liesel, who’s still trying to get
a grasp on the modern world. Everything
is completely different than when she left it, but given her unprecedented
hunting skills, she’s adapting quite well.
Things start to look up for her when she thinks she’s found Sela, but
it’s just as good, prison-mate Masumi.
Being trapped in the Shadowlands will mess with a person and it seems as
though Masumi is not unsusceptible to its power.
I think what I liked the most about this issue was the fact
that this coven that Samira hails from just has no desire to do anything except
feed and cause trouble. They don’t want
to trouble themselves with ruling the world or furthering their race, they just
want to exist. So, I found it rather
interesting to see the slacker vampire for a change, although maybe these are
the only ones I’ve noticed in the media.
Their only motivation is what they feel like doing, which is a wonder
how Samira got all of these thoughts for taking over a country, let alone the
world. It’s just something different to
me and I always enjoy a little variety in my comics (although there is a limit
as to how much variety I can handle). As
for dislikes, none on the horizon for this issue. Pat continues produce some quality work here
and I’m looking forward to the conclusion to see how Samira fairs.
The old gang is back together again, but not all are happy
to see each other. If Samira’s not
careful, dissent within the ranks is bound to be her downfall, so it’ll
probably be best to keep an eye on these newcomers. And who knows what trouble, aside from the
trouble she’s already found, Liesel will run into on her journey to find Sela. All will be revealed in the next exciting
issue of Vampires: The Eternal. Go out
