Archie vs. Predator 2

Posted by Geek-o-Rama Admin on 11:00 AM

Archie and the gang head back to Riverdale, but the vicious extraterrestrial Predator is in hot pursuit! When the kids determine that Betty and Veronica are the targets, they devise a secret weapon—Jughead in drag!

Whether or not you've read Archie in the past is almost irrelevant with this crossover series.  Granted, at least being familiar with the characters would be nice, but it isn't necessary to jump in.  That is even more true in the second issue of Archie vs. Predator than it was in the first.  This is not your father's Archie comic, that's for sure.

Upon returning from their tropical spring break trip, Archie and the gang go back to their typical day to day living.  This does not last long, as the Predator has followed them home and quickly begins a killing spree.  Nobody is safe, and after one of the teens' relatives gives them the 411 on what is after them, they try to fight back.

The long running series has a very particular art style that anyone familiar with it can recognize.  That continues to be used in this next issue and still does a great job of looking just as it has.  Obviously, the biggest difference is all of the violence and blood, having far more than even the first book did.

I have to say, this is one story line I never would have imagined for Archie.  Even back in the day, having an Archie/Punisher book was odd enough.  As weird as this new crossover may be, it's pretty awesome and I'd say it's worth reading for the amusement.

Archie vs. Predator 1

Posted by Geek-o-Rama Admin on 9:00 AM

America’s favorite teen meets the galaxy’s fiercest hunter! Archie and friends hit Costa Rica for Spring Break, where party games and beach games are soon replaced by the Most Dangerous Game! What mysterious attraction does the gang hold for the trophy-collecting Predator, and will the kids even realize they’re in danger before it claims them all?

I have come across some pretty interesting crossovers, but this takes the cake without a doubt.  When I first read the title, I had to make sure I wasn't seeing things.  After getting all the way through the book, I couldn't deny that I had indeed read the first issue of Archie vs. Predator.  Yes, it's still as hard to believe as I write this review.

So how exactly does one mix a comic like Archie with something like Predator?  The book starts off with the gang trying to figure out what to do for spring break, and thanks to Jughead's snacking, win a free trip to a resort.  During their time there, a series of events featuring typical drama causes Betty and Veronica to get into a fight.  Eventually, it is worked out, but not before a certain space hunter sets his sights on the group before they head back home.

Not having read an Archie comic in a long, long time, it was really cool to see all of the familiar characters and settings again.  Even being in a newer book, the artwork has stayed true to the classic, just with a slightly sharper touch.  Oh, and there's the blood and violence tossed in courtesy of Predator's brief appearance.

With this being the first Archie I've read in ages, it was a hilarious new way to hang out with Archie and friends.  Whether you're a fan of Predator or Archie, or both, this is a really amusing book to pick up.  I will gladly look forward to reading more and would say it's worth you're time to do the same.
